Mariachi Tesoro de Tucson is a group of young mariachi musicians directed by Jaime Valenzuela, a talented, professional musician and music educator in Tucson, Arizona. He has known most of Mariachi Tesoro's musicians since they were in kindergarten and invited each of them to participate in this exceptional musical and educational experience. Every year since 2007, Mariachi Tesoro participates in the Tucson International Mariachi Conference (TIMC).
Mariachi Tesoro thanks Director,Jaime Valenzuela, and our instructors, Rudy Valenzuela and Chelye Smith, for their tireless efforts in teaching the musicians and for the strong relationships they build with Tesoro families and the mariachi community.
Mariachi Tesoro de Tucson is proud to carry on this rich cultural and historical heritage of mariachi musicborn in Mexico and the southwest region of the United States. Tucson, Arizona, is now the heart and soul of mariachi music in all the United States. On Oct. 2nd, 2011, for the 2nd consecutive year, Mariachi Tesoro won 1st Prize in the their age group at the Rosarito Beach International Mariachi and Folklorico Festival. Here are videos of the performances:
"¡Puro Tesoro!" is the most recent Mariachi Tesoro CD! ¡Puro Tesoro! was released January 29, 2010. Thank you to Frank & Marty at 17th Street Guitars - a local store selling lots of great local music, for hosting our new CD release party on April 17, 2010.
Thanks also to Gil Sperrywho contributed half his proceeds of his book sales to Marichi Tesoro de Tucson from that event. Gil was on hand to talk with customers and sign books and gave a heartfelt introduction to Mariachi Tesoro. Check out Gil's book, Mariachi for Gringos! If you purchase it on Mariachi Tesoro's site, half the proceeds go to Mariachi Tesoro de Tucson to help raise funds for upcoming conferences in New Mexico, Mexico and elsewhere, as well as support the musical education of our talented and growing musicians!
